Sometimes, what seems like bad news can actually turn out better than you imagined. Ever notice that?
The bad (at the time) news was that the proposal for a new series I had hoped would be contracted wasn't. The good news...I received a new contract from Sourcebooks for more books in the current series! Here's the announcement in Publisher's Weekly:
The bad (at the time) news was that the proposal for a new series I had hoped would be contracted wasn't. The good news...I received a new contract from Sourcebooks for more books in the current series! Here's the announcement in Publisher's Weekly:
Ashlyn
Chase's fourth and fifth books in her paranormal romance
FLIRTING WITH FANGS series, featuring sexy displaced dragons
from Ireland relocating to Boston where they find friends,
family and love, to
Cat Clyne at
Sourcebooks, in a nice deal, in a two-book deal, for
publication in Spring 2015, by
Nicole Resciniti at
The Seymour Agency.
So, how about that bad news? I had proposed a bewitching series and they passed on it. I was totally excited about that one and had begun happily writing it. As it turns out, I'm writing and publishing BOTH of them! I was terrified of Indie publishing, because I'm such a poor business woman. But with a lot of help...my fabulous agent, Nicole, and my friend/neighbor Janet (an H&R block tax expert) I've opened my own LLC! My first Indie book will come out May 5th at all the e-tailers. Oh, and my daughter is a graphic artist and made my cover! What do you think?
Isn't it adorable? I got the family discount and contracted her to make the next three. I just finished writing book two, Tug of Attraction about a tug boat captain and a beautiful witch who left Hollywood to start a family and have a 'normal' life. Yeah, we all know that'll happen. Ha! Book three is called Out of the Broom Closet and is in progress. There's more suspense in that one. My part-fae witch is on the run from her stalker who's using black magic.
And I have given myself an option for a fourth book. LOL. See? I've learned from Sourcebooks! The contract with them, which I'll be signing today comes with an option for another book too.
How about all of you? Turned any bad luck into good, lately?
That's great, Ash! I do this all the time! I wanted to replace some windows, but one of the ones I need replaced worst of all, doesn't have a metal bar above it like it's supposed to. Which means if they knock out the window, I could have all the brick work fall. Disaster. It's a single pane window and I had ice inside it this winter, and the wind blows straight through it. Soooo no new window. But no expense either. So I take the good with the bad. :) I am replacing the others and they are no problem. :)
ReplyDeleteThere's got to be a creative way to seal up that puppy in the winter. I hate to think of you being cold! I'm sure you'll think of something. I've seen window quilts. Maybe one of those?
DeleteI love the positive spin you put on everything and the great news for us is we get to read them all. I had a run of bad luck but if things hadn't happened as they did I never would have ended up in Scotland :-) So it's all in how we deal with what happens isn't it?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, Venus! I didn't know you were in Scotland! How cool! I'd love it if you could share some pics sometime. :)
DeleteSo glad you could turn bad news into good news! I don't usually turn bad news into good, but I often find after bad news I also get good news. So it all evens out.
ReplyDeleteThat works too. ;)
DeleteFantastic cover. Best of luck with your indie venture.
ReplyDeleteTweeted.
Thanks, Victoria! I'm so proud of my talented daughter.
DeleteCongrats! And that's a very fun cover.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri!
DeleteCongrats. Look so cute. I'm ordering Cupcake Coven!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cyndi! I don't think it's got a preorder option (yet.) I should see about getting one.
DeleteCongrats! Here's to creative solutions.
ReplyDeleteAshlyn, I love your take on life's developments. I agree 100% that when one door shuts it means another one will open. Your daughter is quite talented, too. Congrats on your foray as a hybrid author.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gina! I like that designation. Hybrid author. Like sort of environmentally friendly car.
DeleteI am so happy for you! Look it when bad news becomes good :). Your daughter did a fantastic job on the cover. I love the hot little witch ;).
ReplyDeleteThanks! She really is a creative girl.
DeleteLove the cover! What a talented family you have!!
ReplyDeleteShe is also starting a business making custom dyed yarn.
ReplyDeleteGood luck following bad luck? Happens all the time and usually comes in groups of three. I haven't kept track lately, but I think I'm due for a round of the good stuff. Congrats on the new contract, and love that cover!
