Everybody's Got Their Something

New here! Hi, this is my first Casablanca Authors blog. I'm Sherri Browning. The official bio:

Sherri Browning Erwin, best known for classic mash-ups Jane Slayre and Grave Expectations, also writes paranormal romance and historical romance as Sherri Browning. A graduate of Mount Holyoke College, Sherri has lived in Massachusetts and Michigan, but is now settled with her family in Connecticut. Watch for her return to historical romance with the upcoming Thornbrook Park series (Coming June 3! Preorder now! ).
Unofficially? I like food and wine (I'll try anything once). The New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox (did I mention Massachusetts?). I spend far too much of my valuable vacation time in Walt Disney World (slightly obsessed). And. I write in zebra pants.

Zebra pants. Yep. It started out innocently enough. I happened to mention on Facebook (please follow me on Facebook!) that I got a funny look from my neighbor when I was out checking the mail in my zebra pants (and a Mickey Mouse t-shirt, coincidentally). And suddenly, zebra pants were my thing.

I have winter weight, summer weight, in between, and also zebra other things, because why stop at pants? People get me zebra gifts. People send me zebra stuff! It's all kind of awesome, really. (Awesome, we use that word a lot growing up in Massachusetts).

Symbolically, zebras represent individuality, grace, beauty, honesty, and freedom. Also, balance. Power. And magic (all those stripes make predators dizzy and confused). I like to think that wearing the pants translates to magic on the page (fingers crossed).

Do you have a special thing? Something that people think of when they think of you, or maybe something you collect, or can't live without? Tell me about you!

Prize alert! Leave a comment with your email and I'll randomly choose one of you to receive a very special zebra gift plus an advance review copy of
Thornbrook Park.
Fans of Downton Abbey will adore this brand-new Edwardian-period romance series set at the grand estate of Thornbrook Park, seat of the Earl of Averford.

And the winner is... Catslady5@aol.com. Thank you all for the warm welcome!

  2. I read "Thornbrook Park" and loved it! Sherri Browning Erwin is a very talented author! Someone is going to be very lucky. Even if you don't win a copy of the book, I hope that you all will make sure to get a copy. It's terrific!

  3. Zebra pants! Love it! Some of my best work was done in lime green Minnie Mouse pants but alas they finally wore out and now I write in whatever pajama pants I can find plus an oversized T-shirt. They don't have to match. Congratulations on your first blog with the Casa Crew!

  4. Welcome to Casa! I can't say that I've ever worn zebra pants, but I do have tartan pj's. My neighbor is also obsessed with zebra stuff. You two would get along great!

    1. Clearly, your neighbor has great taste! But tartan is pretty cool, too. :)

  5. I think your zebra pants are wonderful. For years, I have been known amongst my in-laws as the one with the furry dinosaur feet slippers. It was quite some time ago but my husband is Danish and the family had never seen such things until we were visiting them one winter back in the '90's. The slippers are long gone, but my reputation and the family's shock over the items remain.

    1. I love the dinosaur feet! I hope you can find new ones. But as long as everyone remembers. :)

  6. Hi Sherri, Welcome! I love the zebra pants. I write in yoga pants or my jammies...it all depends on my laundry situation. Your Edwardian romance sounds like a great read...I just pre-ordered it. Best wishes Sherri!

    1. Crystal, funny, I remember a while ago, my kids asked me about the Betty Boop character. They didn't know her name. So iconic! They know now.

  9. Great pants. I can't wait to read your book. It kills me to say this, but I used to collect those fancy Barbie dolls that were pretty expensive. I actually lost them all in Hurricane Katrina so I decided that I wasn't going to collect things. Now I just have an overabundance of purses and Vera Bradley stuff.

  11. My special thing would be Wolves. I have figurines, statues, wood burnings, stuffed animals, clocks, signs, paw print things, jewelry...I could go on. LOL
My Dad says when he sees interesting looking notebooks he thinks of me. I used to (err...still do) have notebooks everywhere partially filled with ideas or scenes that flash through my head.
What I can't live without (other than oxygen and food and family) well that would be books. :-) But I bet you already knew that.
I have already read Thornbrook Park, and it is in a word AWESOME!

  14. I am from Massachusetts, too. Your book sounds awesome or wicked awesome as we say south of Boston.
I have a pair of diamond earrings that my husband gave to me after our daughter was born. Just love them and wear them almost every day

  16. I love your blog. Good luck with it Sheri. Love the zebra obsession too. One year I mentioned I liked cows--those awesome black and white ones--to my class of middle schoolers. Oh boy, I got inundated with cow stuff. I even dressed up as one for Halloween which cracked up all those cynical "too cool for school" tweens. Is it ironic that I now have two black and white cats?

    1. Thanks, Shana. Oh, teachers do get the gifts, don't they? My mother-in-law has a lifetime supply of coffee mugs and more Christmas ornaments that can fit on the tree. The cow thing just helped them find special stuff just for you. :)

  17. Zebra pants. How fun!
I would say dolphins. Or flamingos. :-)
Although there are two wee ones that live next door. And one had a birthday last week. I took a few balloons over and lined the driveway so when she came home from school, they would be there.
Her little brother knew it was me!! haha How, I don't know. But he knew right away and came over to tell me.
So maybe its balloons, maybe that's what make people think of me. haha
