The Beautiful Ones...

by Julie Ann Walker

My husband and I have had the conversation many times about the difference between attractiveness and beauty.  A person can have charisma, sex-appeal, that certain je ne sais quois that makes them exceedingly yummy even though, from a strictly aesthetic perspective, they aren't all that, well, pretty.  Yet, because of all the aforementioned things, they are still exceedingly "attractive."  And then there are folks whose physical features are pure perfection.  Their faces carved in such flawless proportions that looking at them almost hurts, like gazing into a setting sun without the benefit of UV-blocking sunglasses.  You know, the "beautiful" ones.

The other day, Mr. Walker and I were making a list of "attractive" actresses.  Women whose particular brand of va-va-voom overcomes any flaws in their appearance.  This morning I decided to go the other route and share with you my top ten list of actors who I think are absolutely, hands down, the most beautiful men to have ever graced the silver screen.

Without further ado...

10.) Laurence Olivier

Forget the pencil-thin mustache, how about those cheekbones?

9.) Paul Newman

Blue, blue eyes like the sea. Um, yes please!

8.) Antonio Banderas

Hubba, hubba! Wet or dry, he's the epitome of dark, swarthy deliciousness!

7.) Sean Connery

That jawline.  Those eyebrows. The dimples.  Enough said...

6.) Billy Zane

This man's eyelashes fill me with jealousy. So thick. So dark. And then there's the beard stubble.

5.) Idris Elba

Holy hotness! Black eyes that see into my soul. And a goatee to swoon over.

4.) Chris Hemsworth

That furrowed brow, those squinty, stared-at-a-thousand-horizons eyes. And, again, the beard stubble. (I'm sensing a facial hair theme here. *wink*)

3.) Brad Pitt

Blue eyes. A button nose. A flirty smirk. Brad Pitt takes "cute" to a whole new level.

2.) Tom Hardy

Those lips! Those lips! Mama mia, those lips!

1.) Marlon Brando

Where to begin? How about everywhere and everything! Marlon Brando is pure perfection.

So what do you think of my list?  And who did I leave out?

UNLIMITED DRIVEOnly a crisis could persuade Delilah Fairchild to abandon her beloved biker bar, let alone ask Black Knights Inc. operator Bryan “Mac” McMillan for help. 1. Um, that list looks pretty good to me! Laurence Olivier--who knew? Oh, wait! How about Errol Flynn? He was quite beautiful.

  4. The list looks good on the whole, but I'd like to suggest someone else. Look up Tom Savini. He's still looking good as Osiris Amanapur in the Machete films. (The man is in his 60's!) He first caught my attention back in the 1980 film Knightriders about a renn fair troupe that stages motorcycle jousting. The movie is a bit weird, but Tom's character Morgan is HOT.

    1. I had to Google him. Didn't he play in From Dusk 'Til Dawn?

    2. Yep, he played "Sex Machine", one of the patrons in the bar/brothel. He's done a lot of B-grade horror and slasher films both on and off camera over the years.

  5. This list sounds good. I can imagine how that conversation would be between me and my husband. Looking for to this book! Thank you for your amazing talent.

  6. I would have added George Clooney :) He's .hot, smart and makes cool sexy. He also does something with his fame besides make movies, I like his activism as well. Its one thing to look good but its what you do with it that catches my attention

  7. Great list. I'd add Matthew McConaughey (from when he was in Sahara...yummy).

    1. Ha! Yes. He is pretty. My husband refers to him as Matthew McWearAShirt because it seems he's always running around half-dressed.

  8. Love this list. Paul Newman and Sean Connery...YES! I'd have to add Richard Gere to this list. I wasn't a fan of him when I was younger, but he gets better looking each year.

    1. I agree. Richard is that rare breed that just gets better with age.

  9. Love the lis, but I would add Liam Neeson...that intensity and focus...gah! Anyway, thanks for the chance to win your new book. I love them all!!

  10. I would add George Clooney, too. Can't argue with Brando, Banderas, Newman and Connery!

  11. Love your picks, especially Chris Hemsworth. Thor is hot.

  12. Great list...what about Sam Elliott. .the voice, those eyes and that moustache

    1. Okay, little secret. I have a thing for Sam Elliott. And he DEFINITELY falls under the title of "attractive." Because he's far sexier than he is pretty. ;-) I do enjoy a good Southern drawl and a big, deep base voice. Hubba, hubba!

  13. Great list! I am going to suggest an italian actor, Rafaello Balzo. He's hottttt :) Not just a pretty accent.

  16. I see your list and raise you a Gregory Peck and a Jason Momoa. Swoon. :D

    1. Oooh, I fell in love with Jason Momoa in Game of Thrones! And then I wanted to shoot the writers when he died! Of course, had I only read the books, I would have known what was in store for him. LOL!

  17. Verrrrryyyy easy on the eyes! I'd like to add Peter O'Toole and Timothy Dalton to the list.

    1. Sweet heavens to Betsy! When Peter O'Toole was young, he was so handsome he nearly glowed.

  18. Very worthy choices... I'd also add Patrick Dempsey, Ian Somerhalder, Jeremy Renner, Matt Bomer, & Dylan McDermott. I could go on, but I'll stop myself there.

  19. I would like to add Dwayne Johnson and Channing Tatum to an already great list!!!

  20. Christopher Reeve in the first Superman movie. Even in the closeups, he was perfect!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Love this list. I like that you highlight the difference between structural beauty, amazing in and of itself, yet the draw of someone with a certain enticing flair. I'd add Charlie Hunnam and Daniel Craig (loving that you put in Sean Connery...he's still hot). And I like Aaron Eckhart. Must be something about blondish men for me. Used to be Keeanu Reeves, but not anymore.

  22. Antonio Banderas is really really up there but have to say Harrison Ford is my top pick. Young or old he still has IT!

    1. Pierce is another one of those men that gets handsomer with age. Make me extremely jealous. LOL!

  24. Oh, darlin', where's Timothy Olyphant? That swagger that we talked about last week?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah. He's sexy, attractive, straight-up ovary-melting. But, I wouldn't call him beautiful. Now if I was making a list of "attractive" actors or "sexy" actors, he'd be way up near the top!

  25. Nice job! Have always loved Paul Newman's gorgeous eyes. Since I'm partial to the dark hair/light eye combo, I'd have to add Ian Somerhalder and Tom Selleck (cuz I love me some Magnum PI-oops...am I dating myself!)

    1. Nooo! I love Magnum PI, too! The hair, on Tom's head, face, AND chest. Yum! LOL!

  26. Good list. I have to include Clark Gable on my list, and Howard Keel. Their movies are mostly older than me, but I grew up watching them with my mom.

  27. I think Matt Bomer, George Clooney and Cary Grant would have been great additions to the list.
