She's got sass...and an ancient boot box full of letters written more than sixty years ago. Her mission is to deliver them and then she's free to go on to Florida for a month-long vacation. It wasn't easy delivering love letters from another woman that had been written to her grandfather back before he'd married her grandmother.
It all started when the postman found an old letter stuck down in the bottom of a mail bag that had been shoved back in a desk drawer that hadn't been used since the early fifties. Since it had her grandfather's return address, the mailman brought it back to him. And that's when he made Emily promise she'd take the letters, all of them, to Clarice.
Clarice might not be the other woman, just the "before" woman, but grandparents weren't supposed to have ever loved anyone but each.
He's got mail...and he doesn't even want to hear about it. Greg Adams was on a trip to buy a bull when he found out his Grandmother had installed Emily on their ranch as her assistant. He doesn't quite buy the story of his grandmother as a mail-order bride but he decides to humor the ladies while he checks into it. Emily might have more up her sleeve than delivering lost letters to his grandmother. If so, Greg will personally escort her cute little fanny right off of his ranch.
A lost letter...meant a lost love for Clarice, but two generations later, maybe it's not too late for that letter to work magic.
From letters to texting and back again...Greg and Emily are about to find that that lost art of letter writing can be very romantic.
This book has a very special place in my heart. About fifty years ago my best friend, Karen Garrison, was dating a boy who was in the Army. He was sent toGermany
and they wrote to each other every day. Air mail stamps cost eight cents in
those days and it took a week to get from Germany
to Tishomingo , Oklahoma .
In one of her letters he sent a picture of a group of several of his new friends and I picked out the one I wanted. She got the address from her boyfriend and I wrote the first letter. Brazen hussy, I was even back then. About a year later she received an engagement ring in the mail and her boyfriend came home for a couple of weeks. They got married and she went back toGermany
with him.
Meanwhile, I’m still writing to the fellow I picked out in the picture and another year goes by. One day a lovely proposal and an engagement ring came in the mail. I got on a Greyhound bus and went toPennsylvania
to meet him. We were married six weeks later and folks said it would never
last. That was forty seven years ago and we’re still together.
So now when people say they have found this brand new dating program on the Internet I just smile. Husband and I were the prototypes for that program! And I have a whole big stack of letters plus a proposal right there on paper to prove it.
My story is different than Emily Cooper's, in The Cowboy’s Mail Order Bride. But if that last letter hadn't arrived in Oklahoma from Germany and it wasn't found until my grandson or granddaughter found it not long before the end of my days, it could have read something like this book.
Emily is on a mission and well, a can of worms is opened up. Now she’s taken the letters home toRavenna , Texas
and history is about to be made.
Enjoy the ride! (Yes, that's Mr. B and a very sassy woman just before they married)
Now wouldn't it be something if men folks all over the world decide to lay down their phones and start writing letters!

I haven't met my other half-yet! But what a wonderful story about how you and Mr. B got together! Writing a letter is a lost art form. Thanks for having a giveaway too :)

Yes, it is, Anita. And I'm sorry to say that I've gotten very lazy about that since the advanced technology has come into our world. But I still like to get out that bundle of letters and read through them...much like Clarice did her letters in the boot box.
DeleteYou are such a cute couple, Carolyn! :) Love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Miz Terry. Can't wait to see you at RWA!
DeleteWhat a great story!! The book and yours!! That is just too sweet that you found your hubby that way!!
ReplyDeleteI met mine about ten years ago thru mutual friends. I was actually going thru a divorce and he just called to talk. He became my very best friend and eventually we fell in love! :)
I'm always amazed by best friends becoming more stories. I think that's the best kind of relationship because you share so much!
DeleteI love the story of you and your husband!! Love lasts and it doesn't matter how you meet. Congratulations on 47 years!! I can't wait to read this book. Love everything you write Carolyn:)
ReplyDeleteThank you Anna, for reading my books! I hope that Emily and Greg's story touches your heart!
DeleteWonderful inspirational story of how you met your husband Carolyn ~ unfortunately for me, I am divorced but I started seeing someone I dated 23 years ago and it is going well ~ Congratulations on your release!!!!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed. May your new relationship be as wonderful as Greg and Emily's!
DeleteWhat an awesome love story! And the book sounds exciting - I put it on my want list. :) Back then it wasn't so far fetched to meet someone that way and marry them. My parents got married 9 months after they first met. They are still together 42 years later. My other half and I had gone to church together our whole lives but never knew the other existed until a get together when we were out of high school. :)

Fate does have a way of keeping her own time and stepping in at just the right time, like in your story! Thanks for putting Greg and Emily's story on her want list!
DeleteIt's out! It's out! This one looks so good. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI know! I know! This one is so special to me AND I get to talk about it on Feb. 8 at the Romance in Bonham Library...talk about excellent timing, especially since it's set right in that area.
DeleteCarolyn,
ReplyDeleteThe book looks great and I love your personal letter writing story.

Mr. B can never deny that he did the proposing even if I did write the first letter...BECAUSE I still have that proposal on paper!
DeleteWonderful love story (yours) and sure to be a winner (the book)! I was a new nurse fresh out of school when I met my husband who was working his way through college as the night shift orderly. He leaned over the desk and asked if we needed help with anything. I was instantly smitten!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that story, Cheryl. If we get to sit together at RWA, you've got to tell me more. I hope you are right about it being a winner!
DeleteHappy Launch! I
ReplyDeleteThank you Christy...it's so exciting!
DeleteI love your books! I met my now husband in high school He was the new kid who had traveled the world (air force brat lol) and I had never left my hometown. We're total opposites but been married 44 yrs. I did all the letter writing in our family - except for one uncle, all his relatives lived in different places. I also wrote him every single day when he was stationed in Vietnam. Now I can't remember the last time I wrote any one a letter.
ReplyDeleteIt really is becoming a lost art and I'm very guilty of helping it become lost. There's just something so sweet about holding a letter in your hands. Maybe it's knowing that someone took the time to write it or the fact that it can't be deleted with the touch of a finger.
DeleteI love this idea of running across old letters, but I don't think this will happen much in the future with the way communication has led away from paper letters to phone calls, email & texts.

I know! (Sigh) But it still has such a special place in my heart. Emily and Greg even get in on the letter writing and they love it, too.
DeleteI met my husband in the summer before fifth grade. We were on the same soccer team which his father coached that year! Though we didn't start dating one another until right after high school we were friends throughout. I love your story. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love your story, too. How amazing is that to be friends for seven years before the first date!
DeleteLove letters so romantic! It makes me remember the touching beginning of Titanic!
ReplyDeleteI didn't even think of the Titanic when I was writing this. I should have rewatched it for ideas!
