GUEST LAUNCH PARTY + GIVEAWAY: R is for Rebel by Megan Mulry

Please welcome fellow Sourcebooks fiction author Megan Mulry, whose latest in her Unruly Royal women’s fiction series, R is for Rebel, is now in stores!

Hello and Goodbye

Well, hello Casablanca Authors! Thanks so much for having my Landmark Author self over to your digs to celebrate the publication of R IS FOR REBEL!

This is the fourth and final book in the Unruly Royals series and—as many of you know from having written a series (serieses?)—it can be a triumphant and bittersweet moment when the last book is released. I’ve loved getting to know my characters and seeing how screwed up I could make them—they’re so much more deserving of their HEA that way, don’t you think?—but now it’s time to say bon voyage to the last of my little chicks and let them leave the nest.

My characters also have a tendency to run screaming from the building the first time they realize they’re falling in love (and Abigail in R IS FOR REBEL is no exception), so I thought it’d be fun to celebrate The Great Goodbyes. In honor of these champagne-bottle-crashing-against-the-prow moments, here are five of my all-time favorite cinematic partings:

1. The Classic: “Here’s looking at you, kid.”

I mean? Seriously? Does it get any better than that? When she’s all teary but knows she has to go. Just kill me now.

2. The Taunt: “Afraid I was gonna leave without giving you a goodbye kiss?”

Pretty much hands-down the best rascally hero of all time. Agree? Disagree?

3. The Go-Away-But-I-Don’t-Really-Mean-It: “Goodbye Nickie.”

For pure nail-biting, tear-jerking at its best, no matter how many times I see it I always yell, “Don’t leave!” at the screen.

4. The Take-Back: “I don’t love you.”

“Liar!” I always yell. Poor wounded hero. She just wants to love you, you stupid bastard. (You have to say that last bit with a south Bahstin accent.)

5. The Scram: “You know what’s wrong with you, Miss Whoever-you-are? You’re chicken. You got no guts.”

As far as I’m concerned, that mangy cat steals the scene, but I love it all to pieces…New York City…the rain…the music. Yes, thank you.

As you can probably tell, most of these goodbyes are really hellos. My favorite kind! Do you have an all-time favorite goodbye scene? Sourcebooks will be giving away 2 copies of R is for Rebel to a random commenter and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

Thanks so much again for having me!

  1. Love all of those movies, and I agree 100% about Han Solo! My favorite goodbye is from Gone With the Wind!

    1. Gone With the Wind? NOOoooo! Okay, yes, it was a great goodbye…but then he was really gone. It was not a hello-goodbye. But okay. *sigh*

  2. Don't enter me as I was just lucky to win your book :) But I wanted to add a kiss from the movie First Knight with Richard Gere as Lancelot kissing Lady Guinevere goodbye! It curls my toes.

    1. So glad you are already a winner :) I don't think I've seen that one…I missed a spate of movies in the mid-90s, but I just googled and see it also has Sean Connery, so YES.

  3. OH, yes! What Shana said and then I waited and waited and waited for years for Scarlett to be published so they could finally have an HEA!

  4. Hi Megan,
Thanks for the movie moments. I loved Matt Damon's tough exterior in "Good Will Hunting' (those loner heroes with hard shells to crack). My husband will watch "An Affair to Remember" with me...sometimes he's more of a romantic than me. I wish you the best on your book launch.

    1. I only saw that movie when it first came out so it's a bit vague in my memory…one of the scenes in the nursing home? Or when they were younger? I seem to remember them saying goodbye a lot ;) Thanks for stopping by (here and over at my blog today)

  6. I totally agree with this list - especially Han Solo. :) Hmm, there are some steamy/good goodbye kisses out there. But I'm blanking on them now that I have to actually think of one. OH the princess Bride when Wesley leaves to sail away. :) Yes, that one.
