On this day of remembrance, my thoughts and prayers are with
all the people who were affected by September 11th. That would be an entire nation, wouldn’t
it? I don’t think there’s one us of who
wasn’t affected by that day, whether directly or indirectly.
I remember when it happened, the same way I remember every
big moment in my life. They play in my head like snippets of film. My books play the same way. I’m not sure if
other authors see books in scenes as they write them, but that’s how I see
them. Like little snippets in my head. When I have a whole scene, I can write it.
Then I wait for the next scene to materialize. When I’m done, I have a whole
book, like A LADY AND HER MAGIC.
"August 1817
If the Duke of Robinsworth had known it would be so difficult to raise a daughter alone, he never would have killed his wife. He would have coddled her, wrapped her in lace and taffeta, and put her on a shelf so the whole world could view her beauty.
Even though he'd never admitted it, everyone knew he'd killed her. And though he refused to share the details, they were all correct."
Some of you may know that this is my first book with my real name on it, and I'm tickled to death to see it on the shelves! I have co-written 9 other books with a writing partner, writing as Lydia Dare. We dipped vampyres, Lycans and witches right into the middle of Regency England. I started thinking about what other beings might live and interact with the British ton, and faeries came to mind. My heroine is a Mission Faerie, which means she's predisposed to do good deeds. She lives her life by a list of Unpardonable Errors, the breaking of which means she can be cast out from the land of the fae. Of course, when she is sent to help the Duke of Robinsworth's daughter, she can't avoid him as his melancholy piano playing calls to her in the middle of the night. The rules of her world are even more strict than the rules of his, so let's just assume there's a potential for a lot of rule breaking going on.
I just got the cover for the second book in the series yesterday, so I wanted to share with you all. You get a sneak peek!
Thanks for letting me visit and talk about the launch of A LADY AND HER MAGIC! We're giving away a copy of the book to two random, lucky people who leave comments!
Congrats, Tammy! WTG on introducing more paranormal critters to Regency England. That's what we need more of: supernatural and historical mixed. :) (I'm unfortunately behind on your Lycan series :()

What delightful covers, and what a delightful premise. Very best of luck to you, and your faeries (and to poor Robinsworth, too, of course).
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Tammy! The covers are beautiful :) The piano playing -creepy- is very Poe-esque
ReplyDeleteI love the book cover and the title.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read it. I have read all the Wolf series. Love them.
This is the first time I've heard of a fairy in Regency England.
ReplyDeleteOh what a charming premise! Don't enter me in the drawing. I've just downloaded it to my Kindle and look forward to hiding away from the real world while I read it.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on you release under your real name. I enjoy your Lydia Dare persona and look forward to getting to know the "real" you. ;-)
I love the cover of both of your books! They both sound really good too! Thanks for the chance to win a copy!

Oh, I want to know the how and why to that dead wife!!!! Great beginning to a story. Last year I discovered romantic fantasy/historical and fell in love with the mixed genre. Your books sound like a wonderful mixture! And lovely covers.

Congrats on your first solo release! This does sound great, and the part about the Duke killing his wife really makes you want to know why/what happened (hopefully the book will tell). You do have a couple of gorgeous covers there, btw :)
ReplyDeleteWow, love the mixture of historical and paranormal. Can't wait to read it!
