Okay, folks you've all listened to me moan and groan and whine like a two year old in the cereal aisle at the grocery store the past two months about the heat in Oklahoma. But I now understand the problem with the whole record breaking summer which I intend to share with y'all if you will keep it a secret. I'm afraid the people will drag me outside the house, kick me off the curb and stone me to death if they find out this record-breaking summer is my fault.
H.E.A.T. stands for Happy Ever After Temperatures in this story.
Once upon a time a romance author started a book about a cowboy named Trace Coleman and a sassy Irish lass named Gemma O'Donnell. She typed in the first sentence and it became evident from page one that Trace was a damn hot cowboy and Gemma had a temper just as hot as his dreamy brown eyes.
And the temperature in Oklahoma shot up from the low nineties to over 100 degrees.
Then the author's fingers typed faster. Gemma and Trace were both saddle bronc riders in the Million Dollar Rodeo tour. Gemma wanted to win so she'd have the glory of being the second woman to ever win the title at the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Championship Association) finals in Las Vegas in December. Every time she showed the cowboys that a cowgirl had come to town and whipped their sexy little butts, she put a gold star on her green construction paper Christmas tree hanging on the door of her travel trailer. Come December she planned to put the biggest star right on top of that tree!
Trace had to keep his mind on the game plan: win every single event that he could and then the finals so he could buy the ranch from his Uncle Teamer before the first of the new year. He didn't have time for a sassy bit of Irish baggage who thought she could waltz right into the rodeo circuit and ride a mean bronc. But then he bit into the age old apple and kissed her! It must've been a hot-as-hell kiss because the mercury in the thermometer hanging on our garage climbed to 108 degrees.
No spoilers here folks but the author kept typing and pretty soon the temperature was 111 degrees. One day it even went to 117 in the shade and the big thermometer on the fence out by the patio which was in the sun said 122 degrees.
All this time the author was trying to get Gemma and Trace to their own H.E.A. and she was typing as fast and furious as she could. And then behold, the day arrived when the author finished the rough draft!
And for the first time in weeks, Oklahoma got rain...and the temperature dropped that day down to the high 80's.
What can I say?
Be careful what you write as you work toward that Happy Ever After because it damn sure will affect the temperatures. Now please gather up in my yard and help me carry those stones away from the curb. Now that it's rained twice in the past three days, no one around here believes a word of my HEAT story.
But I swear that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
And to celebrate finishing my 2012 cowboy Christmas book, I'm giving away a free ARC copy of this year's (2011) Christmas Cowboy book...Darn Good Cowboy Christmas book which will be out in October. Comment and your name goes in Pearl's red boot. I will draw one out tonight and mail your ARC tomorrow morning!
Meet Liz Hanson and get reacquainted with Raylen O'Donnell (Love Drunk Cowboy and Red's Hot Cowboy)!
All Liz ever wanted was a house with no wheels and a sexy cowboy for Christmas. Her Uncle Haskell left her the house and twenty acres. Will Raylen O'Donnell be the sexy cowboy?

ReplyDeleteI love your books, i love reading them too. Brigett Anthony
ReplyDeleteLanelle: Thank you for stopping by and for believing my story...now about those stones?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous Brigett:
ReplyDeleteThank you! Readers like you keep us writers in business. Without those who love our books we would soon be on the endangered species list!
Fabulous post, Carolyn...and I have heard rumors that the folks out in Oklahoma know that your books are the reason for the heat wave there this summer!
ReplyDeleteLove your cowboys and their feisty heroines!
Can't wait to get my hands on your Christmas cowboy book!
I am reading "Red's Hot Cowboy" and loving it...can't wait for "Darn Good Cowboy Christmas". I love Carolyn Brown's southern-style witt & humor!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the wicked awesome giveaway! I about love cowboys to death - so smexy!!
ReplyDeleteGood reading ~ Escape by Fiction :)
Lol Carolyn! This summer sure has been a hot one. Love your books and hubbahubba gotta love the cover for "Darn Good Christmas Cowboy"!
ReplyDeleteFun story! This summer in my neck of the woods there hasn't been a lot of heat so all that has been coming from books. I say keep the heat coming because you never know when a sun drought is in the forecast. I read Christmas stories all year round and a cowboy Christmas story is like an extra helping of dessert.
ReplyDeleteI believe every word you wrote... LOL What other explination could there be? I can not wait to read your next book. They are great. ;o)
ReplyDeleteColleen: And I thought I was keeping it a secret until those stones appeared on my front lawn!
ReplyDeleteAnita: Glad to see a familiar face here today! And I'm glad you snuck into Wal-Mart and latched on to their last copy of Red's Hot Cowboy this morning. Sorry folks in Murray County, you shoulda been faster! LOL
ReplyDeleteHello Escape! I'm glad you like hot cowboys but then what's not to love about all that eye candy who thinks women are queens, right?
ReplyDeleteMaria: Yep, it was sure hot while I was writing. I'm waiting a week or two to start a new one hoping that fall hits by then. LOL
ReplyDeleteNa, love your comment about an extra helping of dessert and reading Christmas books all year!
ReplyDeleteHi Patsy. Thank you for believing in me. But most of all thanks for all your support!
ReplyDeleteMama Carol-
ReplyDeleteI am just fixing to start Reds Hot Cowboy (just now got it away from mom :)). Cowboy's and Christmas...2 of my favorite things...can't wait to read it. When I'm reading your books I swear I can see and hear you saying every word on that page and it just makes me laugh! My mom says I can just see her saying that right now! Sure do miss ya'll! Hugs to all!
Love, Jayci
Jayci: What fun! I've been told that very same thing before by folks who know me. Guess it proves that I talk and write the same way! I'm so glad you stopped by today. We had a lot of fun back when you and Amy were in school, girlfriend!
ReplyDeleteI love your story and look forward to reading this book.
ReplyDeleteAndrea: Glad you are liking my hot cowboys and hope you like Pearl's story as well as the others!
ReplyDeleteOh another cowboy. I do love me some cowboys and I can't wait to get this one. Count me in on this one.

loribooklover62 @aol.com
Virginia: Got your name in the boot! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteLori: I'll have to be careful not to write hot cowboy romance next summer. We don't want a repeat. Name going into the boot right now!

ReplyDeleteccbrown66@att.net
I will put your book in the mail tomorrow morning! Hope you enjoy it!
Great post, Carolyn! I'm one of the ones complaining, along with everyone else in Texas, about the heat. We had barely any water pressure this morning. This drought has to end or we'll be like the Dust Bowl. But now if your cowboys are stirring up the dust, that's a different story! And welcome!
ReplyDeletepick me....I need a Darn Good Cowboy:-)
ReplyDeleteUh oh. Forget pollution and whatnot, ROMANCE WRITERS are causing global warming! I really can't say 'cut it out' because, well, the heroes are so H-O-T! So, we'll just keep our little secret a secret, right?
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, maybe you oughta relocate to Alaska or Siberia when you are writing your books--some place where you will be welcomed with open arms for your warming effect as you write your H.E.A.T.s!
