The Making of a Launch Party: Part II

It seems like I was just here talking about my new book The Making of a Duchess, but now that book is old news and I have a new, new book, The Making of a Gentleman! You can see the cover above.

I joke with my agents that my contracts should stipulate I get the dresses my heroines wear on my covers. They laugh, but I’m not really joking. I love this dress!

I think Felicity Bennett, my heroine, would love it too. She’s just as her name implies—spirited, happy, and impulsive. She comes to London assuming she’s being hired as a tutor for a young boy, but when she meets the comte de Valére, he’s not at all what she thought.

Armand Harcourt, comte de Valére—you can see him standing behind Felicity on the book cover. He’s actually wearing more clothes than he probably would in the book—has spent the last twelve years rotting away in a prison in France. He escaped the mob that attacked his family’s chateau and followed his doomed father to Paris. While there he fell in with two “protectors” who called themselves The Jacques. When Armand learned The Jacques’ secret, they had him secretly imprisoned.

Now Armand is trying to start over. He doesn’t speak, doesn’t communicate, doesn’t know any of the rules or customs of Society. Felicity cannot get him to respond until she plays the pianoforte. Music, it seems, does soothe the savage beast. But just as the two begin to fall in love, Armand’s past catches up with him. And Felicity has a secret as well…a dangerous secret.

The Making of a Gentleman is a fast-paced Regency romance full of adventure, passion, and humor. If that’s not reason enough to buy it, it also has that gorgeous lavender gown on the cover. I’d buy it just for that reason!

Would you? Do book covers ever influence you to buy a book? Do they sometimes turn you off?

  1. I love the cover, the hunk, the gown and the premise, Shana! Must have book!!! :) Good luck with sales on your new release!

    I'm like you on the books, I was just making a grand entrance with one book and here comes another. But you'll find your fans want you to write faster. And isn't that great??? :) I always think, but I've written more books than this. Yep, one's ready to be released in 2 more months, one's in final edits, one is done, has to have editorial approval, and one is halfway written. No wonder I feel there are more than what's out there. There are! Good luck with your exciting Regencies, Shana! :) Can't wait to read them!

  3. Covers are the first thing I notice about a book--often before the title or the author. A good impression is crucial. This one looks great, and the story sounds terrific!

  9. Sounds like a wonderful book, Shana! And the gown is very nice but I don't wear dresses often. I might make an exception in this case, however. Covers do draw my attention and I'm more likely to buy a book that has an appealing cover. I guess that makes me superficial!

  10. So many of you buy books based on covers, so I'm sure glad I'm with Sourcebooks because they have the best covers.

  11. Sounds like a great book, and I want that gown, too! I love my latest book cover with a passion, lol, so I know what you mean.

    I love your premise. I've always been fascinated by "wild child" stories, and this sounds like the adult version of that - with romance thrown in. What more could we want?

  13. I ADORE the cover, Shana. And yes, they are so important to catch the interest of a reader. Then I go to the back blurb, then read the first few pages...there are some voices that just hook me, and I'm sold. :}
